From the day

Perspective: The Teenager · Tactile

I’m sweating through this beaded silk dress, and the rayon itch at my hips is driving me absolutely bats while Mother drones on about Mrs. Hodgdon and the school board. I just want to bob my hair and forget this Sunday fluff, especially when she tries to treat me like a child by shoving that floppy **Raggedy Andy** doll into my arms for the portrait. It’s total **baloney** that I have to sit still in these stiff T-strap heels while the jazz is calling from the parlor. I can hear "Whispering" drifting through the house, and the smooth lacquer of the gramophone feels a lot more like real life than this stuffy lace.
