From the day

Perspective: The Teenager · Sight

I’m itching to bob my hair and trade this stiff wool for a beaded silk shift, but Dad’s too busy huffing over the paper, reading how the Allies dispatch note to Holland; conciliation said to be the tone of this and a new note to Berlin. Internment for ex-Kaiser said to be suggested as a compromise--some culprits may be let off, but all this war talk is just pure baloney to me. I’d much rather hunt for some smuggled giggle water and find a jazz joint where "Whispering" is playing on the phonograph. My T-strap heels are practically tapping on their own while I watch the strobe of theater lights shimmer against the slushy winter street.
