From the day

Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sight

The slush is thick under my boots today, but the light hitting those propaganda posters for the new British airship is too sharp to ignore. I frame a lad in a wool flat cap squinting at the headlines, his breath freezing in the air like a ghost of the Great War. A gramophone in the doorway of the music shop is scratching out *I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles* by John Kellette, the melody drifting over the damp paving stones. It’s a soft tune for a hard morning, especially for the men just back from Blighty who look like they’ve seen enough bubbles burst for one lifetime.
