From the day

Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sight

The glare of the Century Theatre lights cuts through the winter gloom, illuminating a sea of wool caps and weary faces ready to pledge their grit to the fight. I adjust my shutter as a young boy on the corner stubbornly builds a fortress of Lincoln Logs right in the slush, oblivious to the newsboys shouting about the Kaiser’s eventual fall. It is a gritty, gray morning, but the spirit of the labor rally is vibrant and truly over the top. The steam from the vents mixes with the scent of cheap bread, framing the silhouettes of men preparing to go over the top for a cause bigger than these frozen streets.
