From the day

Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile

The sun bakes the starch in my stiff high collar as I swap out my glass plates, looking for a shot near the newsstand. A newsie clutches a stack of papers detailing the grim business of German U-boats, his wool cap looking itchy enough to be crawling with cooties. I catch the reflection of a brand new Maxwell car idling by a pump; the driver grumbles while parting with $0.15 for a single gallon of fuel. Nearby, a boy in rough denim overalls sits on the curb, his calloused fingers meticulously stacking notches of cedar Lincoln Logs into a miniature fortress.
