From the day

Perspective: The Teenager · Sight

I’m hunkered down on the curb, nursing a lousy mood while staring at the headlines about the Kaiser’s new ocean liner, but honestly, its silhouette can’t compare to the motorcar that just roared past. My fingers are calloused from snapping together my new steel Erector Set, though I’m currently digging through my pockets just to find the $0.06 needed for a simple loaf of bread. The streetlights are flickering to life, casting long shadows that turn the muddy gutter into a dark no man's land I’m in no hurry to cross. I just want to head home, whistle the latest "Peg o' My Heart" tune, and forget that I'm stuck in this dusty town.
