From the day

Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sight

The humid August haze clings to the starch-collared gentlemen and women in high-necked lace wandering past my lens. I duck under the black hood of my tripod, capturing a sharp snapshot of a newsboy shouting about Dr. Hyde's political climb while he taps his toes to a nearby phonograph blaring "Alexander’s Ragtime Band." The syncopated beat is everywhere today, a melody as bold as the ostrich plumes on a passing debutante's hat. It’s truly over the top, the way the city’s rhythm matches the frantic grinding of my camera’s shutter.
