From the day

Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sight

The slush on Broadway catches the flicker of the new electric theatre signs, silvering the heavy wool cloaks and feathered hats of last-minute shoppers. I adjust my tripod, capturing a newsboy clutching a stack of papers shouting of Zelaya’s flight to a Mexican gunboat, his frozen breath mingling with the steam of roasted chestnuts. A bully crowd swells around a horseless carriage, its driver cursing as he pays $0.10 for a gallon of fuel just to nudge through the carriage traffic. Above the din, a nearby gramophone shop bleats "Put On Your Old Grey Bonnet," providing a tinny soundtrack to the grit and holiday glitter.
