From the day

Perspective: The Anxious Local · Sound

The metallic *ping* of that new electric toaster startled me so much I nearly spilled my mug of bitter instant coffee all down my waistcoast; gadzooks, the world is getting far too loud and fast. Outside, the clatter of horse hooves is being drowned out by the terrifying, muffled *thwack* of those new gun silencers they’re testing down the lane, making every shadow feel like a threat. I can hear the neighbors humming "Put On Your Old Grey Bonnet" to mask the tension of the morning headlines, but I'm too distracted by the price of bread hitting five cents. It feels like every cent is slipping through my fingers while the city hums with an uneasy, mechanical energy.
