From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile
The autumn rain slicks the cobblestones, turning the city into a mirror that reflects the rough wool of passing pea coats and the crinkle of fresh cellophane wrapping. I adjust my tripod, my fingers grazing the stiff, linen-finish of a Rook card deck tucked into a newsboy’s pocket as he rushes past. It’s a bully day for a portrait, even if the baker just grumbled at me for pinching a five-cent loaf with damp hands. I watch the silver droplets bead on the polished brass of a passing motor carriage, the $0.05 I just spent for bread feeling like a fair trade for the warmth in my belly.
