From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sound
The July heat shimmered off the cobblestones, catching the stiff linen collars and broad-brimmed straw hats of the Midtown crowds as they bustled past. A tinny chorus of "You're a Grand Old Flag" drifted from a shop’s new Victrola Phonograph, competing with the frantic clatter of horse hooves and the crackling static of an AM radio setup behind a glass pane nearby. It was a bully day for a portrait, provided the dust from the motorcars didn't spoil the negative. I watched a young man adjust his suspenders as he marveled at a sonar concept diagram in the daily leaf, looking fit as a fiddle and ready for my lens.
