From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sight
The flash powder stings my eyes, but it’s worth it to catch the silhouette of that high-collared lace walking suit against the iron streetlamps. Some blockhead in a flat cap is shouting about the streetcar conductors letting pretty girls ride for free, but I’ve got my sights on a sleek curved-dash Oldsmobile rattling toward the corner. The driver curses as he pulls up to the apothecary, muttering about parting with a whole $0.10 just to fill his tank for a Sunday motor. I adjust my tripod, ignoring his grumbling to frame the way the afternoon light catches the nickel plating and the long, sweeping shadows of the city’s restless crowd.
