From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sound
The iron-shod hooves of dray horses clatter against the slushy cobblestones, a rhythmic percussion underscored by a newsboy’s shrill cry about some blockhead named Addicks fighting for a Senate seat. I adjust the heavy mahogany frame of my camera, capturing the sharp contrast of wool coats and charcoal soot against the morning mist. A dandy passes me humming "Meet Me in St. Louis," his pocket watch glinting with a capital sort of shine despite the biting December wind. I pause beside a teamster grumbling as he pays **$0.10** for a gallon of fuel, the sharp, raw scent of gasoline cutting through the winter air like a knife.
