From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile
The grit of the cobblestones vibrates through my boots as I adjust my viewfinder, capturing the stiff wool coat of a newsboy clutching a heavy stack of headlines about the American squadron in Beirut. Nearby, a young girl in a starch-heavy pinafore sinks to her knees, obsessively dragging a new waxy stick of scarlet Crayola across the slate, the scent of the paraffin thick in the humid autumn air. I check my pockets for a spare dime to fuel the carriage later, grumbling that **$0.10** is a steep price for gas when my own stomach is empty. Across the street, a flickering hand-painted sign promises "The Great Train Robbery" at the nickelodeon, a cinematic thrill that feels just as visceral as the coarse burlap sacks being hauled past my lens.
