From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile
The damp wool of my Newsboy cap itches against my brow as the drizzle turns these cobblestones into a slick, grey mirror. I’m squinting through my viewfinder at a group of schoolboys huddled under a shop awning, their stiff linen collars wilted, sketching a crude, winged Wright Flyer on the pavement with those new-fangled waxy Crayola crayons. One little blockhead nearly gets flattened by a passing motor-car, its driver frantically cranking a manual arm to clear the glass with those ingenious rubber windshield wipers. I capture the blur of his heavy tweed coat just as the scent of wet soot and apple cider fills the humid September air.
