From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sight
The morning light cuts through the soot of the New York sky, glinting off the polished brass buttons of a passerby’s wool frock coat. My camera captures the sharp silhouette of a woman in a high-collared lace blouse as she pauses by a newsstand, the headline of Governor Odell’s latest appointments fluttering in the brisk May wind. Blimey, even with a nickel in my pocket, I find myself weighing the heavy choice between a fresh loaf of sourdough and a new box of those waxy Crayola sticks for my sketches. I skip the five-cent bread, preferring to chase the ghost of a smile on a child’s face before the dust of the trolley settles.
