From the day

Perspective: The Teenager · Sound

The brassy roar of the street sweepers rivals the clatter of horse hooves on the paving stones, but I’ve got Eddie Leonard’s "Ida, Sweet as Apple Cider" stuck in my head like a stubborn burr. I caught some old-timer shouting over the rumbles about "The Man in the Street" column in the morning paper, probably just more dry talk about the city’s business. It’s all capital to me though, so long as I can sneak away from Sunday service to see if the general store finally has those new Crayola wax boxes in stock. I’m itching to sketch out a scene from *The Great Train Robbery* I heard about, even if my boots are soaking through with this icy February slush.
