From the day

Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile

The autumn wind whips through heavy wool coats and thick cotton shirts as I adjust my viewfinder, catching a lad sitting on the curb fiddling with his new Meccano set. He's piecing together those cold, perforated steel strips with a grin that screams he’s feelin' bully, oblivious to the ruckus of the Tammany Hall men shouting Shepard’s name nearby. Behind him, a shopkeeper drags a clunky motorized vacuum cleaner across a dusty rug, the machine’s heavy canvas bag thrumming like the invisible transatlantic radio signals we keep hearing tell of. It's a marvelous age of metal and static, perfect for a crisp frame.
