From the day

Perspective: The Street Photographer · Sound

The damp cobblestones of Buffalo echo with the brassy, relentless march of *Blaze Away* blaring from a phonograph shop, mocking the somber crowds gathered for news of the President. My viewfinder catches a glimpse of a nervous laborer in a sweat-stained wool waistcoat, his eyes darting toward the headlines about that silent assassin, Czolgosz. Some young blockhead nearly trips over my tripod while gawking at a window display of the new Lionel Trains, his whistles drowned out by the hiss of a steam-powered vacuum cleaner nearby. The air tastes of coal smoke and cheap tobacco as I click the shutter, freezing this jittery autumn morning in silver and grain.
