From the day
Perspective: The Street Photographer · Tactile
The icy wind rattles my Kodak Brownie as I catch a Gibson Girl adjusting her heavy wool mantle, her silhouette a sharp S-bend against the slush. I can practically feel the grit of the city on my fingertips, as rough as the stiff lace collars choking those high-society swells. Stopping at the apothecary, I scowl at the sign offering gas for $0.10 a gallon; some chump might pay that, but I’d rather spend my copper on a warm loaf. I tuck my chin into my scarf, the coarse weave scratching my neck, and wait for the precise moment the winter light hits the silk of a passing parasol.
